our boards are given 3 coats of oil in the workshop. the oil brings out the grain of the wood and offers resistance to water. if you look after your board it will last you a lifetime. to maintain your board we recommend that you reapply oil every few months. we use food safe Rustins Danish oil for the best finish but other oils can be used such as linseed and olive oil etc.
after sustained use you can even sand back the wood to remove any knife markings. once sanded back reapply 3 coats of oil to protect it. Your board will then look as good as new again.
oil application:
for the best finish when applying oil sand before with finishing sand paper (120 grit +), clean and apply oil sparingly. sand lightly between coats and on the final coat use the coarse scouring pad on a washing up sponge to apply a thin layer of oil.
other tips:
mop up spills, do not allow liquids to stand on the wood surface.
keep hot pans off your board to prevent marking.
hand wash your board (don’t put boards in the dishwasher)
